William Grant & Sons

William Grant & Sons has been an important part of the Scotch whisky industry for many years, and as a company they have managed to stay true to their roots since 1886, the year it was founded. It’s a family business which began with William Grant, hence the name.

The award-winning company is a key player in the world of whisky, owning some of industry’s biggest names, including Grant’s, Glenfiddich and Balvenie. They also have a selection of other spirits that are well known such as Hendrick’s gin.

Standfast

In 1898, the biggest whisky scandal the industry had ever known hit and almost put Grant’s in jeopardy. Two brothers, Robert and Walter Pattison, were exposed as rogues who had made a deal to buy huge volumes of alcohol with every Scottish distillery. When they were revealed to be fakes, many Scottish distilleries were forced to close down and William Grant almost had to do the same. However, the family produced a battle cry called “Standfast.”
