This practical course has been created by Dr. Andrej Godina and Fabio Milani. Leading figures in the global coffee industry with years of experience between them, they have put all their knowledge and expertise into creating a fun one-day course to teach you the art of coffee-making.
Impress your friends with your coffee knowledge. You’ll learn about each stage of the fascinating production process from farm to cup. You'll study the brewing methods used to extract the beans, how roasters develop distinct flavours applying different roasting profiles, as well as how to brew the perfect Italian espresso.
You’ll quickly become confident using espresso equipment and will be able to produce any drink on the espresso-based menu - from macchiatos to cappuccinos to barista standards.
In this comprehensive 1-day course, our expert instructors will teach you the essential Italian barista skills and brewing techniques through hands-on training. You’ll learn how to serve the perfect espresso, macchiato, cappuccino, and more behind your own purpose-built barista station.
Not only will you be able to impress your friends with your amazing coffee-making knowledge, you’ll know how to use all the coffee equipment like a pro and will be able to work in a cafe with confidence.
The EBS Coffee Course provides you with the knowledge you need to pass the Introduction to Coffee module of the Specialty Coffee Association’s Coffee Skills Program.
As proof of completing the course and developing such skills, you will receive an EBS certificate. If you also wish to sit an SCA exam externally, our instructors will be happy to help you arrange this.
Course Content Overview
Learn all about modern-day coffee culture in Europe and how its popularity first spread from Ethiopia towards Yemen and the Arabic-speaking world many decades ago. Gain insight into today’s main coffee-consuming countries and many more key coffee-related facts.
Become familiar with the coffee roasting process, learn how to preserve roasted coffee, and enjoy a tasting session of light and dark roasted coffee prepared using a French Press.
In this practical session, you’ll get to grips with different brewing methods and learn the difference between under- and over-extraction. You’ll understand the grinding process and coffee dosing for espresso and filter coffee.
Learn how to use the espresso machine quickly and confidently. Practise preparing espresso-based beverages including macchiatos, cappuccinos, flat whites, and more.
Train your coffee palate and intensify your appreciation for coffee during fun tasting sessions. Study the difference between different types of coffee:
- Instant and filter
- Robusta and Arabica
- Specialty coffee prepared using the Chemex and Aeropress coffeemaker
