Course Highlights
If you have taken our International Bartender Course, you’ll have learnt the yellow level WFA (World Flair Association). This course is directed at bartenders with existing flair experience, a bartender with no experience will struggle. The course consists of 3 exciting rounds. The first two rounds, free pour and speed, will challenge your precision and pace. Final round is all about flair bartending which will test how impressive your skills are behind the bar.
Course Content Overview
This is an introduction to flair bartending and its brief history, we say ‘brief’ as flair has only been a part of popular bar culture since around the 1980s. The introduction will cover flair safety, as spinning, flipping and catching bottles can obviously be dangerous. If you follow the simple safety guidelines, you’ll be fine. You’ll then study, working flair, exhibition flair, craft flair and their differences as well as how to use them behind the bar when making drinks.
The first practical round is a Free Pour round. You have to pour a selection of 13 pours including, chase pours and a flair pour.
As the title suggests this round is all about speed! You have to make a daiquiri, espresso martini and negroni within 2 min. The only catch is that you have to make them perfectly, you can’t forget any of the ingredients and they have to be presented as they would in a real bar.
Now things step up a gear. You have 4 minutes to make an Espresso Martini and Negroni and perform the allocated moves of the orange level, which are as follows:
- Posluszny Double Napkin
- Martini Glass One Finger Pick Up
- Ice Scoop 720
- High Behind the Back
- Mindaugas ice cube toss
- Tin on tin #2
- Thumb roll up
- Saint-Jean Store & Pour Balance
- Switch behind the back
- Back to Front Lampshade
- Ricky Wrist Wrap Around
- Wrist Wrap Around #2
- Du Toit/Cuccurullo Arm wrap around
- Over the Shoulder to Nest
- Slide out to Stall
- Showmanship #1 - Drop to Pour
- Swipe to Tennis Grab
- Leoni Arm Roll to Stall
- Showmanship #2 - Flat Back to Front
- Terry Barnes Cross Pour
- Oldan Assisted Jigger Roll
- Collinson Spoon Craft Flair #1
- Dyer Helicopter Strainer
- Fine Strainer 360
- Collinson Spoon Craft Flair #2
- Small Straw Flick up
This is the final stage of the Advanced Flair Course; it’s time for you to put everything you have learned into practice. The course only passes gifted flair bartenders; as a result, the minimum pass levels are high. Don’t sweat it too much, the key to passing the exam is simple, be well prepared, concentrate on your moves, but, most of all, enjoy your flair.
