Craving something alcohol free? Don’t settle for Sprite on the rocks. Whip up a non-alcoholic mojito (or ‘nojito’) for something extra special, without the spirit.


You ever get that feeling when you want a ‘fancy’ drink but you don’t fancy being drunk? We’ve all been there – when you try to think of all the non-alcoholic drinks available and all you come up with is lemonade, Coke and…sparkling water? Well, now you’re in luck. Our non-alcoholic mojito recipe (or ‘nojito’) is ideal for pretty much any occasion: beach days, picnics, nights in or even low-key parties.

Our non-alcoholic mojito recipe has basically all the flavours of a classic Cuban mojito – all that’s missing is the rum. So you’ll get all the benefits of this refreshing cocktail, just without the alcohol.

Here’s what you’ll need…

(Makes 1 cocktail)

  • 1 highball glass
  • 1 scoop of crushed ice (shop-bought or homemade)
  • 4 lime wedges
  • 20ml (¾ oz) sugar syrup
  • 8-12 mint leaves (+ extra for garnish)
  • A few dashes of soda water (just to top the glass up)


Step 1:

Muddle the mint and the lime together in the bottom of a highball glass. If you don’t have a highball just use any tall, sturdy glass you can find in your kitchen. It’s always better to use a proper muddler (which you can find in our professional bar kit, among other things), but a wooden spoon is a decent alternative. Make sure you don’t over-muddle the mint, else the drink will turn out bitter.

Step 2:

Pour a generous scoop of crushed ice over the muddled mint and lime, leaving a little room at the top of the glass for later. Using crushed ice (not cubed) is the secret to every great non-alcoholic mojito. Crushed ice has a large surface area, so it’s easier to mix all the ingredients together, and it cools down much faster. You can buy crushed ice at some supermarkets but if you can’t find it, just make it yourself from ice cubes. Just pop them in a sturdy blender or wrap them in a clean tea towel and crush them with something flat and heavy.

Step 3:

Pour in the sugar syrup. This is a great alternative to cane sugar, the traditional sweetener in the mojito. This is because the syrup blends into the drink much easier, meaning you’ll get all the key flavours in every sip. It’s especially important for this non-alcoholic mojito recipe, because you don’t have the flavour of the rum to distract from the lack of sugar.

Step 4:

Stir up all the ingredients with a bar spoon. The great thing about using a proper bar spoon is that it’s got a flat base that scoops up the ingredients, so it all mixes together nicely. You should see plenty of mint from the top to the bottom of the drink – not all sat at the bottom of the glass. To finish off your non-alcoholic mojito, put a small scoop of crushed ice on top, and stick a spring of mint in there.
