Barcelona’s bartending scene breaks the mould

Barcelona is one of the international capitals of cocktail mastery, high-level hospitality, and brilliant bars. This year, Barcelona became the first-ever city besides London to host the prestigious World’s 50 Best Bars ceremony inaugurated in 2012. The event unfolded back to back with the Barcelona Cocktail Experience festival where EBS students worked alongside some of the top names in the industry.

Besides Paradiso, two other Barcelona venues landed a spot in the top 10 world’s best bars of 2022. Whilst Paradiso earns the right to label itself “the best bar in the world”, it is also the first time that the winner is based outside of London or New York. Barcelona’s bartending scene is booming, so the city is an ideal location for one of the main offices of the world’s leading institution in this sector, European Bartender School. EBS Barcelona trains over 1000 new professional bartenders each year and is one of the most popular schools booked from the selection of 25+ destinations where EBS courses are taught. It’s worth noting that many staff members at Paradiso and other listed bars are EBS graduates. EBS currently offers courses in all cities of the top 10 listed bars (except Cartagena).

Earning the accolade of ‘best in the world’ is no easy feat

The esteemed top 50 list is calculated from the votes of 650 industry experts after 18 months of travelling and experiencing the bars of their choice worldwide. These industry connoisseurs evaluate multiple factors when making their decision: the sophistication of flavour combinations, the preparation of certain ingredients, the innovativeness of production methods, menu design, concept development, and overall guest experience.

These are aspects that cannot be overlooked when establishing a world-class bar. This is why our International and Advanced Bartending courses place such an emphasis both on theory and practice - programmes developed by the biggest names in the industry, our Board of Education members. Giacomo Giannotti himself wrote the cocktail creativity section of the EBS student curriculum. Here you can watch the EBS webinar “Cocktail Creativity with Giacomo Giannotti”, recorded in his eminent bar Paradiso. Giacomo also gives masterclasses to EBS students in Barcelona.
